The company behind the Music City Loop

The Boring Company is developing Nashville's Music City Loop, an underground, all-electric transportation network intended to connect downtown, Nashville International Airport and additional destinations through dedicated tunnels.

The Nashville project is notable because it combines a privately financed infrastructure model with public right-of-way, permitting and safety oversight.

What is authorized

Tennessee announced in February 2026 that TDOT and the Federal Highway Administration had approved the company's state right-of-way lease application and enhanced grading permit. The Boring Company later said its executed Tennessee permit and lease authorize approximately 25 miles of tunnel within state right-of-way.

Construction and station growth

By August 2026, the company said tunneling was underway and that more than 40 Nashville stations were in various stages of planning and design with property owners. Publicly identified activity includes BNA, Music City Center, JW Marriott Nashville and residential projects associated with PRIME, Alcove and Paramount.

What remains unsettled

The complete station list, final operating details, fares, vehicle mix and the full buildout schedule remain developing. LOOP Nashville separates official announcements, public records and disclosed agreements from concepts that have not yet been finalized.
